Definitions

What does “concealed” mean? A concealed minion cannot be targeted by enemy individual spells, that is, by spells whose caster is hostile to that minion. This means your opponent can't use the mouse to drop a normal individual spell onto your concealed minion (and vice versa).

  • If your opponent targets a spell on your minion while your minion is visible, and then your minion gains a concealment effect before your opponent's spell executes, then your opponent's spell squanders (fails)!
  • A concealed minion can still be targeted by friendly individual spells.
  • A concealed minion's group can still be targeted by group spells (friendly or enemy).
  • The game engine itself can still cast any individual spells on concealed minions.

What does “concealed from both players” mean? A minion that is concealed from both players cannot be targeted by any individual spells, friendly or enemy. Its group can still be targeted by group spells, and the game engine can still cast individual spells on it.

Does forest terrain give “concealment”? Yes. As of Sanctum 1.60 CCR (Oct 2004), forest terrain now gives exactly the same kind of concealment as invisibility spells. Hence, non-friendly minions in forest appear grayed out, exactly as if invisible.

Spells that Conceal and Reveal

What spells give concealment?

  • Greymantle (from Clandestine), Ogi's Gauntlet, Xia's Walk.
  • Chaos Fog, Harmattan, Inscrutability.
  • Blinding Orb.

What spells conceal from both players?

  • Fog of War, Sandstorm.

What spells pierce concealment?

  • Biting Wind: This individual spell can target minions even if they are concealed.
  • Insight: The caster of this spell ignores all concealment, as if nobody is concealed. This does not dispel any concealment effects, it simply pierces right through them.
    • Since Insight is a globe spell, it is superceded by any subsequent globe spells that give concealment, i.e. Blinding Orb or Fog of War.
  • Scrying Pool: This spell gives the ability to ignore all concealment.
